We assist students to minimise the impact of emotional or psychological difficulties on academic achievement, through the provision of a range of services.
Currently all services are free of charge to all enrolled students whether Domestic, International or Distance Students.
Emergencies: If you need to see someone in an emergency, please inform the receptionist making the appointment. An emergency would include: feeling you are at risk of hurting yourself or someone else; or feeling too overwhelmed to function as you would normally. For after hours, or alternative emergency services, follow this link for a range of options.
Document Only Sessions: We offer thirty minute consultations with a counsellor for specific needs such as obtaining information, dealing with a specific query, asking for help to complete a form (such as a fee appeal or Impaired Performance) or to access the library of self-help books and CDs. Please bring the appropriate forms and supporting documents to the session if appropriate.
Short Term Individual Counselling: We provide one-to-one counselling if this is appropriate. If you would like to arrange an individual session you will need to come to reception and complete a triage form. For distance students please telephone (06) 350 5533 to speak with a receptionist who can assist you.
Confidentiality: All contact with staff of the Student Counselling Service is regarded as confidential within the normal professional and legal guidelines. More details can be found in the leaflet available from Reception.
Workshops: We also offer a range of innovative and helpful workshops throughout the Semester which will assist all students to manage the challenges of university and academic life more effectively.
The Student Counselling Service does not provide an after-hours service, nor do we have an on-going emergency service.
We have one Emergency appointment available each day and it can be allocated only on that day so please tell the person making the appointment if you feel you need to use this appointment. In general this appointment is used for people who feel themselves at risk of harming themselves or someone else, or for people who are feeling so emotionally overwhelmed that they are not able to function effectively in the university environment.

It is important that you contact us at least 2 hours before your appointment time if you cannot make your appointment.
You can phone (06) 350 5533, or email Medical-Centre-PN@massey.ac.nz to cancel your appointments.
Failure to contact us to cancel your appointment in time will automatically result in a Did not attend (DNA) charge of $10 being added to your account. All accounts will need to be paid in full before further appointments can be made.
The DNA charge applies to all patients.
Students failing to turn up for their booked appointments wastes resources across Student Health, for the sake of the other students needing to use these services, your fellow peers, we strongly encourage you to take responsibility and cancel your appointments if they are no longer required.
