Connect to a Windows PC from a Mac using Remote Desktop

Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac lets you connect from your Mac computer at home, to your Windows-based computer at Massey — then work with applications and files on your Massey PC.

Configure Microsoft Remote Desktop

  • Click New
  • Enter the details below to configure the connection
    • Connection name: IT number of your Massey computer
    • PC name: IT
    • Gateway: No gateway configured
    • User name: MASSEY\Your Massey usercode e.g. MASSEY\jbloggs
    • Password: Your Massey usercode password
    • Resolution: Native
    • Colors: Highest Quality (Use True Color (24 bit) if your connection is a little slow)
    • Full screen mode: OS X native 
    • Start session in full screen: Yes
    • Use all monitors: Yes

  • Click the red close window icon — the details you have entered will be saved

Connect to your Massey Windows PC

  • Connect to Massey VPN
  • Double click the IT number of your Massey PC under My Desktops to connect
  • Click Continue if you receive a Verify Certificate prompt

  • You should now be connected to your Massey PC and see your usual desktop and icons etc.
  • When you're done, click the Start menu, then Disconnect. The Remote Desktop session will end and your Massey PC will return to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen
  • Remember to disconnect from Massey VPN
