The emotional rollercoaster of organisational change
Mr Smollan researched emotional responses to organisational change. His qualitative methodology linked a comprehensive range of factors which were known to impact emotional responses but which had not previously been studied together or related to organisational change. His research spanned several levels of organisational analysis, from organisational culture, through leadership issues, down to individual-level personality, perceptions of justice and emotional intelligence. While emotions have frequently been discounted as irrational, Mr Smollan’s research revealed a number of factors that combine to produce a range of positive and negative emotions among those experiencing organisational change.
