Dr. Trish Bradbury is a Senior Lecturer within the School of Management at Massey University, Auckland, New Zealand. She has extensive experience in managing and coaching sport teams and organisations. She has held such roles as Chef de Mission at the World University Games, Assistant Chef de Mission at the 2000 Paralympic Games, under 19 national girls' volleyball coach, and has been a Board of Director for various national and regional sporting bodies. She has also sat on the Enterprise North Shore Business of Sport Cluster and many university committees such as the Massey Blues Sport and Cultural Committee, the College of Business Board, and in her role as Regional Graduation Marshal, the Graduation Committee. She also has been a University Proctor. She currently sits of the tertiary advisory board for Auckland Sport. Trish’s major research interests concern a variety of aspects of sport/business management related to events, HRM, organisation development and performance management. Trish has published across different genres, and has journal articles in such journals as Sport Management Review; Sport, Business and Management; the Journal of Excellence; and International Journal of Sports Marketing and Sponsorship. She co-edited her most recent book in 2013: Sport Governance: International Case Studies (UK: Routledge). She taught in Massey’s Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS) Sport Management degree for 18 years and currently teaches two BBS core management papers, Organisations and Management, and The Legal and Social Environment of Business. She holds a PhD in Sport Management and a Master of Physical Education in Sport Administration.

My research efforts focus on all areas of the management of sport. Examples include: success and sustainability, sport marketing and branding, service management, human resource management related to athlete selection, event planning and management, facility management, and strategic planning and organisational development practices of sport organisations. My research focus is towards core management aspects in a sport context. Current research topics include:

Coaching / Self-Coaching
My teaching philosophy is totally student oriented in that I teach in a way that the students are coached, mentored, counseled, facilitated, and challenged. I challenge them holistically to take responsibility for their own personal development and growth. I use reflective questioning and situational analysis allowing them to think for themselves instead of being provided the answers. I am able to do this through teaching methods which include: interactive lectures, guest speakers, videos, field trips, and use of practical examples.
My role as a supervisor of graduate level research is to facilitate, stimulate, guide, motivate, encourage and support the candidate in their efforts. My main area of interest is in Sport (Business) Management, but am happy to supervise other topics, as I have often done, with the understanding by the student that the topic area is not my specialist area. I am able to supervise these students, as the process is the same for Sport Management topics, but the content is obviously different.
