My name is Penelope Kandiliotis.  I have had the pleasure of working with Student Health and counselling since 1994.  During this time I have raised a family and moved overseas for a very brief time. When I returned from overseas I worked for four years at Peninsula Medical centre. In June 2009 I returned as a full time Administrator/Receptionist for student health and counselling.

I have been privileged to have worked alongside a wonderful team of doctors, nurses and counselling staff that have provided such great care to all our amazing students during their study at Massey.

In my free time I enjoy Pilates, Yoga, walking, HIIT sessions and spending time with family and friends.

I have been working as a part-time receptionist at Student Health and Counselling since December 2015. I am originally from Christchurch and then Auckland but have spent many years living overseas in Asia and Australia. I moved to Wellington in August 2015 and I am very happy to be back in beautiful Aotearoa. Outside work hours I enjoy walking (usually with our dog), camping, playing piano and making the most of all the things our wonderful city has to offer.

I was born in Greece and am one of a family of three girls. My family immigrated to NZ when I was six weeks and all bar the first six weeks of my life I have been living in Wellington and loving it. I have worked in the corporate sector for over 25 years in various roles including contract management, procurement and helpdesk management.

I started at Student Health and Counselling on a casual contract in July 2015 and was offered a permanent contract in December 2015. Customer service is my passion and not having had any previous experience working in a Medical Centre I am enjoying my new role at Massey University and the new challenges this role brings.

Patricia Ford

Senior Counsellor | Phone: 04 979 3030 or extn 63030

Kia ora. I grew up in the South Island and have lived in London, but now consider myself a Wellingtonian. I completed a Masters in Counselling degree from Massey University, extramurally, as an adult and identify with your efforts to balance work, study, family etc. My four adult children have all been to University. I specialise in working with youth and queer people and am experienced in working with issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, sexual orientation, coming out, grief, loss, family and relationship issues, other mental health issues and career counselling.

I believe that the relationship built between the counsellor and client is one of the most important factors in the satisfaction and success of counselling. It allows self discovery, change and growth to develop in a safe, supportive environment. You can expect I will appreciate and respect who you are - your culture, feelings, thoughts, beliefs and strengths. We will mutually agree a clear contract about the process of counselling.

Transactional Analysis informs my work and I will draw on other approaches depending on our contract. I am a member of NZAC and ITAA and work according to the ethics of these organisations.

Mark Pope

Counsellor | Phone: 04 979 3030 or extn 63030

Hi. I grew up in Ashburton, Canterbury. My maternal ancestors in New Zealand came from Ireland as horsemen and farmers whilst my Dads family are working class Irish. I have strong values around social justice and support for the marginalised. I moved to Christchurch to train as an agricultural economist and teacher before working in Wellington schools for 30 years. Just over a decade ago I completed a Masters in Counselling from Massey University and have worked privately, in the voluntary sector, and in adolescent counselling at Wellington High School. I am continuing my study towards the C.T.A. in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy.

I believe the connection established between client and counsellor to be crucial. I practice eclectically and work with what suits each person’s needs best. I am interested in mental health, sexuality, and esteem amongst others.

I enjoy spending time with good friends in the coffee shops of Wellington. I live near the beach and I enjoy interior design, architecture and reading. I love harness racing and horses and have a small lifestyle block in Canterbury to escape to.

I was born and raised in Hamilton and have a background in mechanical engineering and military service.

From 2010 to 2015 I travelled extensively – an in depth exploration of communication and relationships, experiential psychology and meditation. Upon returning to New Zealand I began a three year programme of counsellor training, completing a Bachelor of Counselling at the end of 2017.

I work four days a week as a counsellor at the Massey University Student Counselling Centre, and work from Featherston St in the Wellington CBD on Mondays. I continue to be well supported in my professional development, and am beginning the process of extending my training as a psychotherapist.

Kate Spill

Counsellor Intern | Phone: 04 979 3030 or extn 63030

Kia ora, my name is Kate and I am very happy to be joining the team at Student Health and Counselling this year as part of my doctorate in clinical psychology.

I have training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), both of which have good evidence that they can help with a range of things you might be struggling with.  In recent years, I have also valued learning more about Māori approaches to wellness and enjoy the opportunity to put these valuable approaches to use to help you relieve distress and live a more meaningful life.  Whatever kind of talk therapy we do together, it will be collaborative and you’ll be in the driver’s seat.

In my personal life, I really enjoy spending time with my friends and family (including my two small sons); especially if it involves food and spending time in the great NZ outdoors.

Landa Van den Berg

Counsellor Intern | Phone: 04 979 3030 or extn 63030

Hi! I started my counselling training a while ago and am very happy that I could join the team as a trainee. While the field of counselling may be relatively new to me, I bring a wealth of other experience, having worked as a business coach and consultant for many years. I decided to change careers as I want to use my skills in a setting where people are open to a genuine exploration of the challenges that life sometimes throws at them.

In my training we are taught a range of interventions and techniques, so we can meet a wide variety of needs. I also work as a meditation teacher, and this proves to be very helpful for many of my clients. In my counselling work I am bound by the NZAC Code of Ethics.

I live with my husband and two Siamese cats in Wellington, having moved from the Netherlands in 2007. We love our Kiwi life and definitely call New Zealand home.
