What to expect on Graduation Day

We look forward to seeing you at the Regent Theatre on Broadway Avenue in Palmerston North. We hope you have a great day!

Before the ceremony

  • Collect your robes from the Gown Room on the Massey University Manawatu Campus (10 minute drive from Palmerston North Regent Theatre) Click here for map
    Need help with robing? Ask the staff in the gown room or come into the Regent Theatre Foyer where ushers can assist you.
  • Get to the Regent Theatre early. The doors open 1 hour before the ceremony starts.
    You may want to take photos with your family in your gown or have an official portrait taken by Global Pix Photographers - or book one for later in the day. Click here for photographer details
  • Be in your seat early (we recommend AT LEAST 30 minutes before the ceremony starts).
  • Briefings for Graduands will start 20 minutes before the ceremony starts. Don't miss this chance to ask questions and see what you have to do!
  • Settle your guests into their seats. You may want to give them your personal items such as phones, handbags etc. so you don't have to worry about them during the ceremony.

Order of Ceremonies

  • Official Academic Procession
  • Karanga/Welcome
  • University Waiata
  • Chancellors Address
  • Awarding of University Degrees & Diplomas begin
  • Guest Speaker
  • Awarding of any Doctoral Degrees
  • Close of Ceremony
  • National Anthem
  • Academic Procession leaves the stage
  • Graduates leave the theatre and form a processional line on Broadway Avenue
  • Guests leave the theatre to watch the procession
  • Procession move from the theatre towards The Square, finishing at the Graduation Celebration Marquee
  • Join your family, friends and Academic staff at the marquee to celebrate your achievement, take photos and catch up before heading off to other activities or celebrations
  • You might want to have an official portrait taken with Global Pix in the Photography Marquee or purchase a graduation memento from the Alumni Association
  • We hope you continue to celebrate your achievement during the remainder of the day or evening - please feel free to come to campus to take photos or celebrate over dinner at one of the many cafés and restaurants in Palmerston North
