Located on Keiller Place, a sunny ridge above the Turitea campus, the Atawhai Single Units are a 10-20 minute walk from all the resources of the main campus. The walking track up to Atawhai passes through an area of trees, and ascends 150 steps up a well formed and well lit path. Many people enjoy the tranquility, small birds and natural beauty. The route from campus to Atawhai is safe as New Zealand does not have snakes, or any other dangerous wild animals.

Atawhai is a peaceful residential area, with a supportive village-like atmosphere. There are thirteen five-bedroom units, prioritised for students new to study at Massey. The units are available for mature students, largely those studying at post-graduate level, from a variety of countries, religions and cultures, including New Zealand domestic students. Each unit is completely self contained, but there are many opportunities to socialise together.
