HD refers to an increase in display or visual resolution. There are currently two standards of High-Definition concerning the abilities of television receivers to display high-definition pictures:
Ability of the eye to see 1080p
For 1080p television viewing, there is a minimum size to distance ratio to see a significant benefit. The ability of the eye to resolve 1080p content also depends on the amount of contrast in the picture. For optimum viewing, it is recommended to sit at a distance of approximately three times the diagonal measurement of the screen.
Compatibility with DVI
The DVI signal is electrically compatible with HDMI video signal; no signal conversion needs to take place when an adapter is used and consequently no loss in video quality occurs. However, unlike HDMI, DVI interfaces carry no audio data.
