Massey's Māori Language Policy - Matua Reo Kaupapa was established in 2006. The policy provides a framework for increased Māori language use at the University. For details see Māori Language Policy.
Massey University has a a Māori name, Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa. As opposed to other universities that use ‘Te Whare Wānanga o’ and their name as the translation. Massey University purposefully adopted a different approach.
Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa is a translation of the concept - from inception to infinity - or lifelong learning, and is the name used by Massey’s Māori language spokespeople during te reo Māori media interviews.
